	How does Smooth Beam work? Very gently: Our FDA approved Smoothbeam laser therapy is a special noninvasive way to treat your skin wrinkles. The Smoothbeam laser uses a newly patented laser-assisted skin renewal (LASR) process linked with a Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD). While the Smoothbeam laser targets and heats collagen in the upper dermal skin layers to stimulate new collagen formation, the Dynamic Cooling Device cools and protects the epidermal layer to give your skin the therapeutic benefits of both controlled heating and cooling.

	What Will It Be Like? You and Dr. Jacobs or his physician assistant will wear protective eyewear during the treatment. With a small handpiece, the doctor or his physician assistant will deliver laser pulses to the skin. You may feel a laser probe touching your skin, and a cooling sensation with each pulse.

	Is It Painful? 30 minutes prior to your laser treatment, on the areas to be treated, Dr. Jacobs would like you to apply an over the counter topical anesthetic called LMX 5%.?? Patients may complain of mild pain, which includes slight rubberband- like snapping or stinging sensations.?? LMX 5% minimizes this discomfort and makes your laser therapy much more pleasant and tolerable.?? You can prepare ahead of time.?? Pick up a tube of LMX 5% at our office or at the pharmacy before your appointment.

	How Long Are The Treatments? The length of time depends on the site treated. One session may last from 5 to 30 minutes.

	How Many Treatments Do I Need? In most cases, three to four treatments may be required for best results.?? The more treatments, the better your results will be.?? The treatments are usually performed two to five weeks apart.

	Is It Covered By My Insurance? Wrinkle laser therapy is usually not covered by health insurance.?? You may need to contact your insurance carrier to discuss whether or not laser therapy is covered.

	How Long To See Less Wrinkles? Be patient.?? Smoothbeam can smooth your wrinkles, but because laser therapy works by tissue "remodeling," it may take up to nine months to see results. Also, certain patients will need more treatment sessions than others to attain good results.

	What Do I Do After My Treatment? After Smoothbeam wrinkle laser treatment, you should avoid rigorous scrubbing of the affected areas. Cleanse the treated areas gently. Be sure to avoid sun exposure, and use a gel based sunscreen after your wrinkle laser treatment.

	Are Lasers Safe For My Skin? Lasers, like the Smoothbeam laser, have been used in medicine for the past 20 years. They are both safe and effective, enabling physicians to target the more stubborn areas of the skin.

	Is There Any Other Help For Wrinkles? Yes, Dr. Jacobs can prescribe Botox, 5-FU, retinoid, or glycolic acid therapy, and a TCA or Betaliftx skin peel.?? Therapeutic skin peeling exposes a fresh new layer of skin with a more even color and smoother texture.?? This rejuvenating process can decrease wrinkling and can improve your skin complexion.??
