Pressure Sores
This is a very simple educational sheet to explain two
simple, but highly important facts:
FIRST: Pressure sores are caused by
continuous pressure that prevents blood
flow to the skin, and thus, prevents
oxygen from getting to the skin. The result is death of the skin due to
lack of oxygen. This “skin death” is the pressure sore. The pressure sore can
then become infected and can progress.
SECOND: In order to prevent and / or
treat the pressure sore, the most important thing that can be done is to avoid the pressure. This allows oxygen
to get to the skin. With oxygen, the
skin can live and will not get the pressure sore!
